Teresa and Bruce Caldwell
421 Coles Knob Road, Pilot, VA 24138
Teresa and Bruce Caldwell of Cavalier Farms raise free-range chickens and cows on their Floyd County, VA farm. Recently, they have added raising hogs for their meat customers. All natural, pasture raised hogs for healthy, lean pork: the other white meat! The Caldwells have been selling at the Blacksburg Farmers Market since 1988, and are particularly proud of their ‘conception to consumer’ beef production and their ‘ready-to-eat’ products made from their home-grown produce and livestock.
Patron favorites include Sweet Italian and Hot Italian sausage as well as breakfast links and ground sausage. Other offerings from the farm include eggs, baked goods, preserves and bedding plants. The Caldwells also sell seasonal apples, pears, cherries and blueberries picked from Wades Orchards in nearby Woolwine.
Bruce teaches Ag Education at Floyd County High School, and Teresa’s sole job is tending to the livestock and crops. She enjoys the cycle of reproduction of her cow herd. “There’s nothing prettier than seeing a cow herd with their bull and a bunch of super good little calves sleeping or running around with their tails up in the air or butting heads.”
